This is a larger version of a study for a decorative cycle at the Chateau de Brou, to consist of a series of Allegories of  the local rivers and streams, which abound in the Indre et Loire. The Negron has its source near Sammarcolles, runs north though a shallow valley, past  Beuxes and La Roche Clairmeaux, to empty into the Vienne, below Chinon and about five miles from its junction with the Loire. The project was not retained.
